In a coordinated operation today, the Income Tax department, aided by paramilitary forces, conducted raids on the business establishments of prominent entrepreneurs Mulchand Baid and Kundal Mal Choudhury in Silchar. The targeted businesses, known as Manoj Kumar Baid & Brothers and Bhabani Trading, respectively, faced scrutiny as tax authorities sought to investigate potential financial irregularities.

A synchronised operation unfolded at the establishments situated at Chamragudam in Silchar. The simultaneous raids aimed to uncover any discrepancies in the financial records and transactions of the two enterprises.

Both Mulchand Baid and Kundal Mal Choudhury were detained at Silchar airport and were subsequently escorted to their respective business premises by a dedicated investigative team dispatched from Delhi. Comprising of 10-15 members, this team was entrusted with probing the financial affairs of the businesses in question.

Mulchand Baid’s establishment specialises in the wholesale distribution of rice, lentils and grocery items. The enterprise serves a broad market, extending its supplies to regions including Barak Valley, Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram. Meanwhile, Kundal Mal Choudhury’s business focuses on sugar distribution at wholesale rates, catering to various parts of the country, with a significant presence in the North East.
