Major Narcotics Haul in Cachar: Police Seize 50,000 Yaba Tablets Worth Rs 10 Crore

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Cachar Police, under the leadership of SP Numal Mahatta, successfully carried out an operation resulting in the seizure of a staggering 50,000 Yaba tablets. Additional SP Subrata Sen, in a press briefing, revealed that the market value of the confiscated consignment is estimated to be a whopping Rs 10 crore.

The operation, meticulously executed based on secret information, unfolded at Saidpur, Silchar. Cachar Police, during this special operation, apprehended one individual identified as Alenbi Pohthmi from Jarailtala, Dholai. Pohthmi was found in possession of five packets containing the substantial quantity of Yaba Tablets.

Further investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, Parvez Sultan Majumdar, 26 years old, residing in Saidpur Pt- IV, Silchar. The duo is believed to be part of a larger network involved in the illegal transportation of narcotics.

The narcotic substance, Yaba, is a combination drug containing methamphetamine and caffeine. Commonly known as the “madness drug” or “crazy medicine,” Yaba tablets are notorious for their stimulant effects, inducing feelings of euphoria, increased energy, and alertness. However, these tablets also pose severe health risks, often leading to addiction and various physiological and psychological complications.

The Cachar Police’s swift and successful operation revealed that the seized consignment of Yaba tablets was illegally transported from Chaiphai in the Kolasib district of Mizoram. The operation marks a significant victory in the ongoing battle against the illicit drug trade in the region.
