MLA Misbahul Islam Laskar Lays Foundation for New Library and Science Lab at Jarailtola High School to Boost Education
On December 17th, taking a significant step towards bolstering education in government schools, Misbahul Islam Laskar, the MLA of Borkhola, visited Jarailtola High School to initiate the groundwork for a new library and science lab. This move aligns with a broader governmental initiative aimed at furnishing such essential facilities across all government schools.
Ahead of the foundation-laying ceremony, an insightful dialogue transpired between the MLA and school teachers, illuminating the challenges confronting the institution. Raised concerns encompassed a dearth of teachers, limited parental involvement, and the unique circumstances faced by first-generation students.
In the discourse, educators underscored the prevalent trend of students opting for private institutions due to resource inadequacies and a scarcity of teachers capable of addressing specialized needs. Additionally, worries were voiced regarding Class 9 students grappling with basic writing skills, irregular attendance, and a shortage of proficient language instructors.
Leading the charge for the school’s revival, Headmistress Swarnali Bhattacharjee sought time and assistance to restore the institution to its former eminence. She highlighted the school’s historical achievements juxtaposed with current challenges, such as teachers juggling multiple subjects, leaves impacting an already lean workforce, and the imperative need for expanded infrastructure to accommodate the burgeoning student populace.
Evident was the conspicuous mismatch between student numbers and available resources, notably the inadequacy of desks and benches. Students themselves voiced their frustrations, intimating a potential halt in attendance if suitable seating arrangements were not promptly provided. To mitigate space constraints, examinations are conducted in dual shifts.
Acknowledging these pressing issues, the MLA expressed optimism that the state government would swiftly address them. The challenges faced by Jarailtola High School serve as a microcosm of wider concerns prevalent in rural government schools, where insufficient teachers and inadequate infrastructure pose obstacles to delivering quality education.
