Tragedy in Silchar: Drink and Drive Claims the life of one “Feriwala”
A heartbreaking incident of drink and drive has claimed the life of a local hawker in Silchar’s Madhurapul area. Nazrul Hoque Barbhuiya, a hawker in our town who sold vegetables from his pushcart, tragically lost his life in an alleged drunk driving incident.
The unfortunate event occurred near the Silchar-Manipur National Highway in Madhurapul, where a speeding bike collided with Nazrul’s cart, leading to his immediate demise.
Nazrul, residing in Cachar’s Kashipur area, commuted daily to Silchar to sell vegetables. On the fateful evening of January 9th, while returning home, he met with this tragic accident as a bike struck him from behind.
The overspeeding bike, reportedly driven by a 17-18-year-old, resulted in the swift and unfortunate death of the hawker. The police promptly initiated an investigation, taking the deceased’s body for postmortem at Silchar Medical College.
The overspeeding bike rider was apprehended by the police. Family members alleged that the rider was intoxicated, emphasizing the dangers of drink and drive. Driving under the influence not only violates the law but also jeopardizes the safety of the driver and those around them.
Nazrul’s nephew shared that the deceased was facing financial difficulties, urging authorities to provide compensation to the grieving family. This incident underscores the importance of responsible driving and the severe consequences of neglecting the dangers of drink and drive.
