Cachar Police Trace Missing Silchar Girl at Bangladesh Border in Tripura after Mithun Nath Alleges ‘Love Jihad’
Yesterday, Mithun Nath of Viswa Hindu Parishad held a press conference highlighting the case of a missing girl identified as Pompa Rani Das. According to Nath, Das was an employee at a Health Centre owned by Dr. Samsur Rahman, a Congress leader and one of the claimants for a ticket to contest the Lok Sabha election from the Karimganj constituency in the upcoming General Elections.
Das’ mother alleged that a man identified as Mumin came close to her daughter by pretending to be a Hindu. The two of them got into an affair, and then he revealed that he is not a Hindu but a follower of Islam. “My daughter decided to walk out of the affair after she got to know about his religion. Since then, he has been blackmailing my daughter with some distorted images. He even showed the images to me and threatened to make them public. On January 7, my daughter went missing, and we are certain that he has kidnapped her,” alleged Pompa Rani Das’ mother.
Cachar Police confirmed that they have traced the couple, and both of them are now in police custody. Speaking with Barak Bulletin, Cachar SP, Numal Mahatta said, “After the incident was brought to our notice, we traced their location by tracking their mobile phones. They were in Tripura at the Bangladesh border. That is when I got in touch with Border Security Forces, and both of them were safely brought into our custody following a coordinated search and rescue operation. The alleged victim has been rescued, and the accused has been arrested; the matter remains under investigation.”
It is worth mentioning here that Mithun Nath of VHP had alleged that the boy is Bangladeshi by nationality and questioned the role of the Cachar police in curbing what he calls “Love Jihad” cases. According to him, multiple girls of Hindu faith are being lured into relationships by Bangladeshi men, forcing them to eventually convert to Islam and relocate in Bangladesh.
Police sources in Assam and Tripura confirmed that the boy in question is a resident of Tripura and was working legally in Nagatilla, Silchar. In fact, Police have gathered evidence that both of them are still in an affair and were eloping as a couple.
