74-year-old resident of Cachar admitted at a private hospital for complications related to Kidney and Liver have tested positive for COVID 19. The patient with recent history of travel from Guwahati, after testing positive, has been shifted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.
“We have got a patient being shifted from a Private Nursing Home in Silchar to the Medical College and Hospital today morning at around 1:30 am. The patient has been admitted to the COVID ICU and is being treated by the specialised doctors,” said Principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta.
He added, “My message for the general Public is to not get panicked with this news. What we have understood so far is that the current strain has low to no severity and therefore, there is no need to be alarmed. In fact, my suggestion is that people should not lose focus from their other ailments because of COVID. We have seen in the past that the people, once found Positive for COVID19 has lost the focus on other treatments and that turned out to be fatal.”
The Principal informed that the hospital will follow the Government SOP and will send samples for Genomic Sequencing if needed. It is worth mentioning here that the patient was tested at a Private testing facility and not at SMCH.
