Congress Burns Effigy of Kamalakhya; Calling him Bibhisan

In a recent turn of events, MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha’s declaration of support for the BJP and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has sparked discontent within his former political party, the Congress.

To express their dissatisfaction with his decision, members of the Congress party gathered at the Silchar District Congress Office, where they burnt an effigy of Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and chanted various slogans against him. Among these slogans, one likened him to Bibhisan, a character from the Indian epic Ramayana known for betraying his family to aid Lord Ram, his act is often seen as betrayal to his family.

Similar displays of displeasure have been witnessed in other parts of the Barak Valley, with today’s event marking the continuation of this trend. Alongside branding him as Bibhisan, protesters labeled him a traitor, and voiced various other grievances.

Adding to the tension, Youth Congress President Ranadhir Debroy issued a warning to BJP sympathizers within the Congress Party, urging them to promptly switch to the BJP, as he declared that there is no place for BJP sympathizers within Congress Party.

Meanwhile, during a press meet at the Silchar District Congress Office, Abhijit Paul, the District Congress President, expressed relief at Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha’s departure from the party. He asserted that the Congress is now stronger without him and demanded that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma release the report on Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha collected by the CM Vigilance Team during their recent raid on the MLA’s residence.

He further stated that he had already proclaimed Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha as Bibhisan a few years ago during a press conference and now he has just proved it. He then goes on to ask anyone else like him, any Bibhisan or Mirzafar if they are in the party to leave the party without any delay.
