MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha Reveals: Statements Against Government and CM Were Scripted by Bhupen Bora
Karimganj North MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, weeks after demonstrating his support for CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, returned to Barak Valley to an enthusiastic reception from his supporters. They greeted him with slogans praising him and the CM, including chants of “Jai Shree Ram.” A large rally followed him everywhere, including Silchar Railway Station, where he paid tribute to the Language Martyrs of Barak Valley.
Upon his return, MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha addressed the media and made startling revelations. He disclosed that his earlier statement, while with Rahul Gandhi, labelling CM Himanta Biswa Sarma as the most corrupt CM in the country, was scripted and not reflective of reality.
Clarifying his stance, he revealed that the President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Bhupen Bora, had instructed him to make such statements against CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, terming it as “Scripted.” He further claimed that under Bhupen Bora’s guidance, he had made statements against the government, as no one else in Congress could articulate criticism as effectively.
Addressing being called “Bibhisan,” he asserted that he did not deserve the label, unlike others in Congress who, according to him, are the real Bibhisan. He emphasized that he had been transparent in his actions and could not be labelled as such.
He then announced his intention to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and expressed readiness for the upcoming by-elections. Confident in his reputation, he asserted that he would not need to beg for votes, as his name alone carried weight.
However, it should be noted that his decision to support the CM and resignation from the Congress Party sparked dissent among his former colleagues. Earlier, some expressed their displeasure by burning his effigy and hurling insults. Meanwhile, District Congress President, Abhijit Paul, remarked that the Congress Party was now stronger without Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha.
