Living under dirty drain water; Voters of Chittaranjan Road in Silchar boycott poll

Silchar goes for polls today and till 9:00 am, 5% voters have already cast their votes exercising their democratic rights. However, residents of Chittaranjan Road in Silchar’s NS Avenue are not among the 5%.

120 voters of the residential area have called for a vote boycott as much of their lane is under dirty drain water. An hour of rain is enough to submerge their courtyards under the smelly water. That water flows into their reservoirs making their life an encounter with hell.

“We have submitted memorandum to MLA, MP, and all other stakeholders. Six months back, MLA Dipayan Chakraborty assured us he will find a solution to the problem. All these remained spoken words and that is it,” said a resident of the lane.

“We women of the lane, pull up our sarees above our knees. This demeans us with shame, but who cares? Our shame, our plight, our troubles are ignored for years. So, why shall we go and cast our votes? We know our votes don’t matter to anyone. We are just 120 voters and they win with bigger margins,” shared a female resident of the Chittaranjan Road.

According to them, the Longai Khal got clogged and that is why they are submerged under water.
