Extreme heat in Barak Valley, DC Cachar issues revised school timings

Cachar district has recorded the highest temperature of more than 39 degrees Celsius recently. In response to the persistent high temperatures over the past week and the continuous rise in mercury levels, the Cachar district administration has announced new measures to safeguard the well-being of students. Effective from May 27, 2024, all schools in the district will have revised timings to minimize students’ exposure to the extreme heat during school hours.

The notice issued by the District Commissioner of Cachar, Rohan Kumar Jha read, “After careful consideration and consultation with relevant authorities, it has been deemed necessary to advance school timings across the district. This adjustment aims to provide a cooler environment for students, ensuring their safety and comfort during the hottest parts of the day”

The revised school timings for both government and private schools in Cachar district are as follows:

For Lower Primary Schools: 7:30 AM to 12:15 PM
For Upper Primary Schools: 7:30 AM to 12:45 PM
For High Schools/Higher Secondary Schools: 7:30 AM to 1:15 PM

These new timings will come into effect on May 27, 2024, and will remain in force until further notice.

This decision follows a series of incidents where students fell ill due to the extreme heat, prompting urgent action to ensure their safety. The district administration urges all schools to comply with the new timings and prioritize the health and well-being of their students during this period of intense heat.
