Eid-ul-Azha Prayers Moved Indoors Due to Incessant Rain in Barak Valley
This year’s Feast of Sacrifice or the Eid-ul-Azha is being observed mostly indoors due to continuous rainfall since early morning. The heavy downpour forced believers of the Islamic faith in the Barak Valley to offer Eid-ul-Azha prayers inside mosques instead of the traditional open-air Eidgah. The Itkhola Eidgah Mosque in Silchar saw hundreds of devotees gather for prayers, a stark change from the usual outdoor gatherings with over thousands gathering for oblations and bowing down for Namaz.
In Silchar, the Itkhola Eidgah was unusable due to the relentless rain, prompting devotees to move inside the Itkhola Eidgah Mosque. The prayers were led by Imam Maulana Sabbir Ahmed of the Silchar Bara Masjid. Despite the weather, thousands of devotees participated in the prayers, maintaining the spirit of Eid.
The situation was similar across the region. In Karimganj, where the Eidgahs typically witness thousands of devotees, fewer than 100 people were present for the prayers this year. At the Town Eidgah, Maulana Assad Uddin read the Khutbah this morning. The relentless rain left the usual prayer grounds deserted, pushing believers to pray inside mosque buildings.
This year’s Eid-ul-Azha was marked by the adaptability and resilience of the Muslim community in Barak Valley, who ensured the continuity of their religious observances despite the challenging weather conditions.
