Anti Corruption Branch Strikes Again: Silchar Settlement Officer Arrested for Bribery
A government official was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe in Silchar. Narul Haque Barbhuiya, a settlement officer at the Silchar Settlement Office, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch today. The incident occurred when Borbhuiya accepted a bribe of ₹5,000 from Akhtar Hussain inside the office premises.
The bribe was demanded in connection with a land acquisition matter. Akhtar Hussain had been required to pay ₹30,000 to expedite the release of funds for his land, which was acquired under the Bharatmala Project. Barbhuiya was caught by the Anti-Corruption Branch team while accepting an advance of ₹5,000.
Following the arrest, the Anti-Corruption Branch conducted a thorough interrogation of Barbhuiya within the office. Additionally, a raid was carried out at Barbhuiya’s residence in Bagpur, Cachar, as part of the ongoing investigation.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of corruption within the government sectors. Efforts are being made to curb such practices, with teams like the Anti-Corruption Branch actively working to bring corrupt officials to justice.
