Police Raid in Tarapur Uncovers Illegal Sale of Military Uniforms: Shop Owner Arrested

In a joint operation, police and military intelligence raided a clothing store in Tarapur Station Road and seized counterfeit digital pattern army combat uniforms. The proprietor, Nabendu Dey, was arrested.

Acting on a tip-off from military intelligence in Kolkata, the operation took place on Thursday, 18 July, at 3 PM. The raid targeted the shop “Cachar Disposal” and resulted in the seizure of 18 metres of fake army combat uniforms.

The new digital pattern combat uniform was unveiled by the army on 15 January 2022, replacing the old one. Sellers were instructed not to produce or sell combat uniforms in the open market due to serious security concerns for the Indian Army.

The uniforms are to be sold exclusively through army unit-run canteens. However, the proprietor of Cachar Disposal was found purchasing the uniforms from Delhi and selling them illegally.

Nabendu Dey, the shop owner, was arrested for unlawfully selling these combat uniforms. Authorities have begun investigations to identify others involved in this illegal activity.
