Robbery Plagues Budhurail: Local Residents Hand Over Two Thieves to Police

Of late the residents of the Budhurail area of Kathal Road are having sleepless nights, a spate of thefts has plagued the Silchar-Kathal Road area, with items from homes, livestock, vehicles, and even small businesses being stolen. Places of worship, including mosques and temples, have not been spared, leading to heightened anxiety in the community. On Sunday morning the locals were able to get hold of two thieves who have confessed to the blatant robbery spree in the area. Later the locals handed them over to the Cachar Police.

On Saturday night, two thieves stole fish from a vendor living near Bank Colony in Kathal Road. The following morning, the vendor went to buy more fish for his business and spotted the two youths selling fish at Budhurail Bypass. Recognizing his stolen fish, he alerted the community. Local residents gathered, detained the thieves, and tied them to a pole. A huge crowd had gathered in the area who fell victim to their daily night misadventures. The police arrived, dispersed the crowd, and took the thieves, Sourav Das and Kanai Das, into custody. Both are also locals of the area who lived there on rent.

The vendor told reporters that these thieves had previously stolen his bicycle. They confessed to their involvement in the theft. Local resident Pintu Das reported that his e-rickshaw was stolen by a gang three days ago from Budhurail, and his house was targeted by thieves again last night. He suspects the arrested youths are part of this gang and is calling for severe punishment and a thorough investigation.

The fish vendor recounted, “Last night, I couldn’t sell the fish at the bazaar, so I left them at home to be sold this morning. To my surprise, all the fish were gone by the night. This morning, when I went to the bazaar near the bypass, I saw these two selling fish, and I immediately recognized them as mine.”

Another local added, “We often see them wandering around our area late at night. Two bicycles were stolen from my home as well. We’ve complained to their parents several times, but they don’t seem to care.” The community has called for action against the gang and an end to the nightly thefts.
