Robbery in Kalain: Armed Gang Loots House and Business on Gunpoint

 

Last night, in a shocking incident in the Kalain area of Cachar, a group of armed robbers carried out a severe robbery, targeting both a residence and a business establishment. The robbers made away with cash amounting to ₹11.7 lakh and several lakh worth of gold ornaments. The robbery took place late at night (early morning) on August 5 in the Brahmangram village of Kalain.

The gang, consisting of 10 to 15 armed individuals, forcibly entered the home of businessman Niben Chandra Roy late last night. They assaulted family members and, under the threat of firearms, stole ₹11 lakh in cash and several lakh worth of gold ornaments. After causing chaos in the house for nearly an hour, the robbers proceeded to Niben Chandra’s business establishment, where they stole ₹70,000.

In a statement this morning, Niben Chandra Roy recounted the traumatic event: “It was around 1:30 AM when I woke up to drink a glass of water. I heard a knock on my door and initially thought it might be my mother calling me. However, when I opened the door, 10-12 people forcibly entered and held me down. They first snatched the chain from my neck and demanded to know where the cash was kept. They threatened to kill me if I didn’t provide the information. They then went to my father’s room, and despite my attempts to wake him, they broke the door open with sharp weapons. They tied me and my father up took my wife, child, and mother hostage, and looted the entire house in search of cash and valuables. Throughout the ordeal, they brandished their firearms, guns, and sharp weapons at us.”

The incident has caused significant alarm in Kalain. This morning the victims filed an FIR at the local police station. The victims suspect the robbers to be locals. Despite a police investigation being underway, no suspects have yet been apprehended.
