Sunday Night Drug Bust: Rs 30 Crore Worth of Yaba Tablets Seized in Karimganj
In a significant anti-drug operation on Sunday, Karimganj police in the Jalalpur area of Badarpur seized Yaba tablets worth ₹30 crore and arrested three notorious drug peddlers. The operation, led by Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das, was conducted on National Highway 6, based on a secret tip-off.
Police intercepted a luxury four-wheeler vehicle bearing the registration number AS 01 DL 1510. After nearly an hour of searching, they discovered a hidden chamber above the right tyre, where 1 lakh Yaba tablets were concealed. The drugs were being transported from Mizoram to Patharkandi in Karimganj.
Three suspects, identified as Ashraf Ali, Abdul Hannan, and Pradeep Das, all residents of Katigorah in the Cachar district, were arrested in connection with the operation. The vehicle used for transporting the drugs has been confiscated, and the seized tablets have been brought to the Badarpur police station.
SP Partha Protim Das stated, “We had a report that a vehicle with Yaba Tablets was moving from the Aizwal side. Based on that information, we set up a naka at Jalalpur. We intercepted the vehicle and, after a thorough search, found a secret chamber made above the right tyre from where we found 1 Lakh Yaba tablets. In this connection, we have arrested three people.”
The police are continuing their investigation to uncover further connections to this drug supply chain, aiming to dismantle the network involved in this illicit activity.
