Vehicle Vandalized and Four Lakhs Looted in Kaliganj: Tension Grips Area

A shocking incident unfolded in the Kaliganj area of Karimganj on Saturday night, as a car was stopped, robbed, and vandalized by a group of assailants. The crime occurred at the Khudrakandi Trijunction, creating panic and unrest in the locality. Following the incident, an FIR was filed against 13 individuals at the Kaliganj police investigation checkpoint.

According to the complaint, Debanjan Baishya, the manager of a local businessman named Imran Hussain, was en route to Hussain’s residence in a Thar vehicle (registration number AS 01 DH 9233) to deliver a sum of four lakh rupees. As the vehicle reached the Khudrakandi area, a group of assailants stopped the car, attacked it, and assaulted both the driver and Baishya. The attackers then looted the four lakh rupees from the vehicle.

Imran Hussain, who has been the target of threats for several days, stated that he had called his manager to his house to hand over the cash due to safety concerns. Hussain believes the attackers mistakenly thought he was in the vehicle, leading to the violent confrontation.

In a statement, Hussain revealed, “Sahan, Azad, and his gang have been threatening me for the last several days. They have threatened to kill me, behead me, kidnap me, and even harm my entire family. Azad even threatened to kill my father. I had a few relatives at my home, and this gang attacked them as well.”

Detailing the assault, Hussain added, “On Saturday, August 31, around 7:30 PM, when my manager and his driver left my home, they were stopped by some individuals at the Khudrakandi Trijunction. The attackers smashed the windshield with sticks, pierced the hood with daggers, and forcibly opened the passenger door. They dragged my manager out of the car and took the four lakh rupees from him. My cousin, who was passing by, witnessed the attack and was able to identify everyone involved.”

The violent episode has led to heightened tensions in the Kaliganj area, with the local gathering at the police station demanding the arrest of the perpetrators. The police have launched an investigation, and security has been tightened in the region to prevent further escalation. The Kaliganj police are currently pursuing leads based on the eyewitness accounts and the complaint lodged by Debanjan Baishya.
