Football Victory Celebration in Dholai Turns Savage, Mini Truck Ploughs Over Crowd
A joyous football celebration turned tragic in Dholai, Cachar, on Wednesday evening, following a semi-final match of the Matribhoomi Football Tournament. The match, contested between Bagha Islamabad Football Club and Lailapur Football Club, saw Bagha Islamabad FC claim victory and advance to the final. However, the celebratory mood quickly turned into chaos.
As fans of Bagha Islamabad FC took to the streets, bursting firecrackers in celebration, a group of angry supporters from the losing Lailapur FC drove a mini-truck into the crowd. The truck, driven in a fit of rage, ploughed through the cheering fans, injuring several of them. After travelling a short distance, the truck lost control and overturned on the road.
The incident triggered a violent confrontation between supporters of both teams, leading to stone-pelting from both sides. As the tension escalated, the situation quickly spiralled out of control, prompting local authorities to intervene. Police arrived at the scene and successfully brought the situation under control.
Several people sustained severe injuries both from the truck incident and the ensuing clash. Visuals from the scene show the mini-truck running over pedestrians, with one victim suffering a broken leg. The injured individuals have been admitted to Silchar Medical College, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
The tragic event has left the town of Dholai in shock, casting a dark shadow over what should have been a celebration of sportsmanship.
