Three Major Anti-Narcotic Operations in Cachar: Ganja, Heroin, and Yaba Tablets Seized
In a series of successful operations on Monday, Cachar Police seized a significant quantity of narcotics, including cannabis, heroin, and Yaba tablets, in three separate raids. The operations, based on credible intelligence, targeted illegal drug transportation networks in Lakhipur, Silchar, and Sonai.
The first operation took place in Lakhipur, where an autorickshaw with the registration number AS 11 EC/1299 was intercepted by the police team. Upon searching the vehicle, police found 13.290 kg of ganja. Two individuals were arrested at the scene: Saugaijam Heinouton Singha, 44, and Sanatombi Devi, 37, both hailing from Kamangha, Jiribam, Manipur. They were reportedly transporting the narcotic substance from Jiribam in Manipur. The authorities have initiated further investigations into the matter.
In another operation conducted later in the evening of October 7, 2024, police launched simultaneous raids in Kanakpur Part II, Silchar, and Ramnagar, Sonai. During the raids, law enforcement officials apprehended Akhtar Hussain Borbhuyan, 20, from Natun Ramnagar Part I, Sonai. Police recovered 44 soap cases suspected to contain heroin, weighing a total of 572 grams, along with 10,000 Yaba tablets. The total value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be around ₹7 crores.
Additionally, a motorcycle bearing registration number AS 11U/7249, which was allegedly used to transport the drugs, was also seized. The consignment of narcotics is believed to have been transported from Vairengte, Mizoram. Investigations into the source and intended distribution of the drugs are ongoing, as Cachar Police intensify their efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks in the region.
