SP Cachar Rushes To Manipur Border Following Reports of Kidnapping, Rules out Extremists’ Involvement

An incident of alleged kidnapping has heightened tensions in the Jirighat area of Cachar district, which borders the state of Manipur. The alleged abduction of a local resident has prompted a swift response from law enforcement agencies.

Cachar Superintendent of Police (SP), Numal Mahatta, rushed to the scene to assess the situation following reports that a Muslim individual, identified as Md Saiyur Uddin, was kidnapped on October 21, 2024, at approximately 4:00 PM. Uddin, a resident of Paschim Kashimpur Balijuri in Jiribam, Manipur, was reportedly in the area for agricultural work when the incident occurred near A Kapakhal.

In an exclusive briefing to Barak Bulletin’s correspondent, SP Mahatta stated, “We have received information that some unknown miscreants are responsible for this act. Initial investigations suggest that there are no connections to extremist groups. Our suspicion is on local miscreants.”

The area where the incident took place is remote, lacking direct road connectivity, which has posed challenges for law enforcement. A police team has been deployed to the site via riverine routes using boats.

Additionally, discussions have been held with the SP of Jiribam and paramilitary forces stationed on the Manipur side to coordinate efforts for the safe recovery of the abducted individual. SP Mahatta assured the public that operational measures are being taken to resolve the situation.
