Cachar District Magistrate Prohibits Lotteries in Compliance with Gauhati High Court Order
The District Magistrate of Cachar, Mridul Yadav, IAS, has issued an order prohibiting the organization of illegal offline and online lotteries within the district. This directive follows a PIL petition filed in the Gauhati High Court, which raised concerns about the unauthorized organization of lotteries across various districts in Assam.
The Gauhati High Court, in response to the petition, directed the state government to instruct all District Commissioners and Superintendents of Police not to grant permission for such activities. Furthermore, authorities were urged to take immediate action against individuals or organizations found involved in illegal lottery operations.
In line with these instructions, the Cachar District Administration, exercising powers under Section 163 of the BNSS Act, has imposed an immediate ban on both offline and online lotteries within the district. The order is effective immediately and will remain in force until further notice. Any violation of this order will result in penal action under the relevant provisions of the law.
The order emphasizes that this step is part of a broader effort to curb illegal gambling activities and maintain law and order in the region. All police stations and administrative offices have been instructed to ensure strict enforcement of this directive.
The official notice was circulated to all concerned authorities, including the Superintendent of Police, ADMs, and Circle Officers, for immediate compliance and necessary action.
