Tension Mounts in Silchar as Police Preps Transfer of Bodies; Hmar Association Demand Written Assurance

Dead bodies of 10 alleged Kuki Militants that were kept in the morgue of Silchar Medical College and Hospital since Wednesday are set to be transported to Manipur. The Government of India has arranged for Choppers to airlift the dead bodies from the helipad in Masimpur.

However, the members of the Hmar Associations protesting outside the Department of Anatomy, demand that the bodies must be transported via road and not air.

This demand escalated tension and Cachar Police had to deploy more forces and apply restraint force. Then the protesting members started demanding for written assurances that the body will not be flown to Imphal and instead will be landed at Churchandpur town of Manipur. Cachar SP Numal Mahatta made it clear that Cachar SP is in no position to provide anything in writing as the matter is under the jurisdiction of Manipur Police and Home Ministry.

Eventually, a female member of Hmar Association confirmed that Thomas, Additional SP from Jiribam has give it in written that the body will be flown to Churchandpur and Manipur Police or CRPF won’t be in the helicopter. Following the assurance, bodies are being loaded in coffins.
