Silchar Shyamananda Ashram’s Karta Baba Passes Away at 99

Revered spiritual figure Jitendra Brahmachari, the chief monk of Shyamananda Ashram in Silchar’s Bilpar, passed away at the age of 99, leaving thousands of his devotees grieving. Fondly known as ‘Karta Baba’ and ‘Mouni Baba,’ the monk, who embraced sanyas at the tender age of 12, left for his heavenly abode at 2 am today within the sacred premises of the ashram.

For over 84 years, Jitendra Brahmachari dedicated his life to the Shyamananda Ashram, leading an austere and disciplined life as a staunch Hindu Shakta sanyasi. Since 1970, he had observed a vow of silence, communicating only through gestures or written messages. His spiritual journey, deeply rooted in Hindu traditions, inspired countless devotees, transcending religious boundaries.

Born in  Baniyachong, he was the youngest of six siblings, all of whom embraced celibacy and monastic life. Known for his unwavering commitment to religious practices, the monk shunned human contact, interacting only with a select few disciples. His ascetic lifestyle and blessings were regarded as miraculous by many of his followers.

Thousands of mourners have gathered at the ashram to pay their last respects. He has been laid to rest in a samadhi within the Shayan Mandir of his guru, Shyamananda Baba, marking the end of an era. His passing leaves behind an irreplaceable void in the spiritual community.
