Silchar’s Traffic Congestion to Reduce by 80%, Claims MLA Dipayan Chakraborty
Road construction in Silchar has commenced under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s new initiative, Nogoriya Poth Nirman Achani. The project has began in certain areas such as Narsing Road and Ukil Bazar, according to Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty.
During a meeting organised by Kristi Vibek Sangskritik Sangstha in Tarapur Chandmari area, the MLA addressed several pressing issues, including flash floods and poor drainage. He highlighted Rangirkhal as a major contributor to flooding in Silchar due to rampant encroachments. “Encroachments will be removed, and we expect to complete 80% of the work during this winter season,” he stated. He also mentioned that additional funds have been approved to address issues at Singirkhal and Longaikhal once work on Rangirkhal is finished.
The delay in these initiatives was attributed to the Model Code of Conduct enforced during the Dholai by-polls, but work is set to resume immediately.
Regarding road expansion, Chakraborty shared updates on the widening of Ambicapatty’s roads and assured that similar efforts are ongoing in other areas. “We have freed the roads from encroachment, making them broader. By March next year, we aim to establish permanent dividers, which will significantly reduce traffic congestion by 70-80%,” he said.
