Barak Valley Mourns the Loss of Eminent Lawyer and Writer Imad Uddin Bulbul

The valley has lost someone truly exceptional with the passing of renowned lawyer, writer, and historian Imad Uddin Bulbul. His demise is not just a loss to the legal fraternity but a blow to society as a whole. Known for his dedication to justice, Mr Bulbul was involved in several cases, often fighting relentlessly for a prolonged period of time to ensure justice was served. His commitment never wavered, even if his cases stretched as long as 17 years.

The President of the Bar Association, Mr Dulal Mitra, expressed his deep grief over the loss, saying, “His passing is very personal to us. We all revered him and adored him, and losing him is not just a loss to the Bar Association but to our society as well. Even this afternoon, we had a fun discussion, and now that he is gone, it is unbelievable. We never thought this would be our last interaction.”

Describing Mr Bulbul’s dedication to his work, Mr Mitra said, “Whichever case he took, he gave his best. He was very active in every matter regarding the Bar Association. He was a truly secular person and an exceptional lawyer.”

Beyond his legal contributions, Mr Bulbul was a passionate writer and historian who documented the heritage of Barak Valley through his books. “His contribution to literature can’t be matched. He wrote extensively about Bhasa Shaheeds and the history and heritage of our valley. He always advised us to take up writing and encouraged us to get into penmanship,” Mr Mitra recalled.

The news of his passing came as a shock to those who knew him. “We had no idea. Suddenly, I heard he became unwell and was taken to Mediland, where he was declared dead by the doctors,” Mr Mitra shared emotionally.

Remembering Mr Bulbul’s warm personality, Mr Mitra said, “He would remain alive forever through his writing, through his books. He has written countless literary works, and through his literature, he will forever be with us. He was an exceptional person, friendly in nature. Even though I was younger than him, he always spoke to me with respect. He always had a smile and maintained good relationships with everyone.”

Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev also paid tribute to Mr Bulbul on social media, stating, “Deeply saddened by the passing away of eminent writer, historian, journalist and veteran lawyer Imad Uddin Bulbul. His absence will leave a vacuum in our society. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
