“BJP has been running Silchar Municipality as a Syndicate without election”: Sushmita Dev
Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev has accused the BJP-led administration of running Silchar Municipality Board as a Syndicate. On Friday, she raised several concerns, demanding that mayoral elections be conducted independently during the formation of the Silchar Municipal Corporation and urged the government to provide employment opportunities to local educated youth.
Dev criticised the BJP for implementing various projects in Silchar over the past five years without an elected board, questioning where citizens could access details of these developments. She highlighted the absence of financial transparency on the Silchar Municipality’s website, leaving the public unaware of the funds allocated for the city’s development and how they were utilised.
With the upcoming municipal corporation election set to cover 42 wards, Dev stressed the need for a complete overhaul of the existing administrative infrastructure to strengthen the corporation. She also criticised the ruling party on multiple issues and declared that the Trinamool Congress would contest the forthcoming elections with a fresh approach of bringing new faces to the fore.
“Victory or defeat in an election is left for the voters to decide. But not conducting an election for five years is insulting the democracy. Panchayat Elections have been delayed and it is nothing but a conspiracy of the BJP. The dates for the Silchar Municipal Corporation Election is awaited. I hope Honourable Chief Minister won’t put forward the excuse of flood in April to delay the Elections further. It is the right of the people to vote and elect their representatives,” concluded Dev.
