Jayanta Mallabaruah inspects zonal Jhumoi rehearsal ahead of Guinness Record attempt
Cachar’s Guardian Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah inspected the Jhumoir Binandini dance rehearsal in Silchar on Tuesday as preparations intensify for the upcoming grand event celebrating the 200th anniversary of Assam’s tea industry.
The historic performance is set to take place on February 24 at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium (Sarusajai Stadium), Guwahati. Featuring 160 performers from Cachar’s seven constituencies, it aims to set a Guinness World Record, with an estimated 8,000 teams from tea garden areas across the state participating.
Barak Valley is actively preparing for the event, with over 300 participants from the region expected to take part. The minister, who is also the guardian of Cachar district, visited the rehearsal at Silchar’s Town Club ground, where artists from Cachar, Hailakandi, and Sribhumi gathered for a zonal training session.
Mallabaruah emphasised that the 200th-anniversary celebration is a tribute to the contributions of tea garden workers. “The Jhumoir Binandini programme is ongoing across Assam, with workshops and rehearsals happening in different zones. I am here to ensure that our artists receive all necessary support, including travel arrangements for Guwahati,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the event would showcase the rich cultural heritage of Assam’s tea tribes and Adivasi communities on a global stage.
