Auto Driver Arrested With Rs 2 Lakh Fake Currency in Dholai, Vehicle Seized

Dholai police have arrested an auto-rickshaw driver with ₹2 lakh in counterfeit currency. Acting on a tip-off, officers intercepted the vehicle near the Dholai police station around 8 PM on March 7 and recovered 400 fake ₹500 notes hidden behind the back seat.

The arrested driver has been identified as Nizam Uddin Laskar (30), a resident of Rajghat Part-I in South Dholai.

The auto-rickshaw, bearing registration number AS 10C 7282, has been seized, and a case has been registered under the relevant sections of law.

During preliminary questioning, Laskar claimed he was unaware of the fake currency and insisted he had picked up passengers from Bhagabazar without knowing where the stash came from.

However, police noted that multiple notes carried identical serial numbers, raising suspicions of organised counterfeiting.

Laskar was produced before the court on Saturday as investigations continue.
