BJP Swapped Ballot Boxes in Panchayat Polls, Alleges Borkhola MLA Misbahul Islam
Serious allegations have been raised by Borkhola MLA and Congress leader Misbahul Islam Laskar against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of ballot box tampering in the recently concluded panchayat elections in Assam.
Speaking at a felicitation programme organised by the Cachar District Congress Committee in Silchar on Thursday, Laskar said, “I’ve my doubt that they (BJP) have changed a few ballot boxes. I say this because our party voters inserted currency notes of Rs. 10 or Rs. 20 inside the ballot box while voting. But during the counting of these same booths, we didn’t find any notes. We did this to check whether the voting process was fair or not. But we didn’t find any notes and that’s why I think ballot boxes were swapped.”
The panchayat election results, which were declared on May 12, saw the BJP securing a majority in almost every district across the state. However, the Congress leader questioned the credibility of the results, hinting at electoral malpractice.
“People fear saying anything against the BJP, and that might attract hateful steps against them, but even at such times, I salute our Congress workers who gave us victory in many seats,” Laskar added while praising the courage of party workers.
