Cachar ADC, ACS Yubraj Borthakur Dies at 44; A Promising Officer Gone Too Soon

In a tragic loss to the administrative fraternity, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Yubraj Borthakur, passed away at around 4:30 PM on Sunday at AIG Hospital in Hyderabad. He was 44 years old and had been battling Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), a serious gastrointestinal condition.

A 2015 batch officer of the Assam Civil Service (ACS), Borthakur, had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since May 15. His condition deteriorated rapidly, and he was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on May 17. Despite efforts by the medical team, including lead gastroenterologist Dr. Aniruddha Pratap Singh, his condition worsened due to a high fever, low blood pressure, and weakened immunity, which prevented crucial surgical intervention.

His mortal remains will be flown to his hometown in Dibrugarh on Monday, where he will be cremated with full honours. He is survived by his father, Dulen Kumar Borthakur; brother, Debraj Borthakur; and wife, Akansha Sharma Borthakur.

Borthakur had been serving as ADC of Cachar since 2022 and was also the CEO of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), where he played a vital role in disaster preparedness and relief efforts. His administrative journey began in 2017 as an Assistant Commissioner in South Salmara. Over the years, he served in key roles, including Circle Officer in Nagaon and Dolgaon, and as Sub-Divisional Officer in Hailakandi.

Known for his humility, efficiency, and deep commitment to public service, Borthakur was widely respected by colleagues and loved by the public. Beyond administration, he had a passion for music and was a gifted singer, often performing at cultural events.

District Commissioner of Cachar, Mridul Yadav, IAS, expressed his grief, stating, “The untimely passing of ADC Yubraj Borthakur is a tremendous loss not just for the administration, but for the people of Cachar, whom he served with dedication and humility. His commitment to public service, his professionalism, and his calm demeanour will always be remembered. We have lost a brilliant officer and a compassionate human being.”

The news has cast a shadow of grief over the Cachar district administration and the wider civil service community. His legacy of service and compassion will be remembered and cherished.

This was stated in a press release issued by the Regional Office of Information & Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar, Assam.
