Parijat Hotel and Restaurant Sealed for Food Safety Violations, Illicit Activities
The Food Safety officials of the district, in coordination with Cachar Police, sealed Parijat Hotel and Restaurant near Lathigram on Silchar–Lumding Road (Mahasadak), Cachar on Monday (August 11) following multiple complaints of food safety violations.
According to authorities, the hotel, which also houses a spa, has been under scrutiny for a long time over various issues. Recently, Udharbond Police arrested a man and a woman from the premises in connection with alleged illicit affairs.
Udharbond Circle Officer Rituraj Bordoloi told Barak Bulletin, “Food Safety authorities found several violations when we went for inspection today. Other than that, they were flouting several rules, including maintaining a check-in register. They were not asking for any identity cards or documents from guests who were booking accommodation here. We have seized the check-in register as well, and an investigation will be carried out.”
Bordoloi added that a report will be submitted to the District Commissioner’s office for further action, and the duration of the seal will depend on higher authorities.
During Monday’s raid, officials found expired food items, rotten vegetables, and unhygienic kitchen conditions. Complaints of stale food, as well as incidents of insects being found in served meals, had been repeatedly lodged by customers.
The establishment comprises a restaurant, private rooms, cabins, and a spa, from which allegations of illicit activities have reportedly emerged.
Authorities have assured that a thorough probe will be conducted before deciding on the hotel’s future operations.
