Assam University Silchar Bags Rank 97 in NIRF 2025, VC Pant Credits Collective Efforts
Assam University, Silchar, has made a significant comeback in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings 2025 by securing Rank 97 among universities across the country. The varsity has also broken into the top 100 in pharmacy in the latest national rankings. Assam University’s Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences has secured rank 76 in the NIRF 2025 among pharmacy institutions. The rankings were declared by the Union Ministry of Education on Thursday (September 4). An award ceremony was also held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, attended by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
After a gap of six years, Assam University has re-entered the NIRF’s Top 100 rankings, coincidentally with the same Rank-97 it held in 2019. Its return has been hailed as a major achievement, reflecting renewed focus on academics, research, and institutional growth.
Speaking to Barak Bulletin, Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, crediting faculty, staff, students, and a positive ecosystem for the success. “We have been working consistently to improve our ranking. Last year, our research performance was good, but public perception was weak. This time, with collective efforts and the right ecosystem, positive developments were highlighted in the right way,” he said.
He praised faculty contributions, noting the impactful research of Prof. Piyush Pandey, who published a paper with a 32 impact factor and currently heads the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). He also highlighted the achievements of Prof. Alok Tripathi from the Department of History, who is on deputation with the Archaeological Survey of India, leading underwater excavations in Dwarka. “He is our star, and his work has also reflected positively on the university. He always speaks highly of the University, and such factors have brought the results,” Prof. Pant added.
Acknowledging the stiff competition this year, Prof. Pant remarked, “Even from a remote area, we managed to be in the top 100. Competition is much tougher now compared to earlier editions when participating institutes were fewer in number. Nothing succeeds like success, so we look forward to improving further and aim to be within the top 60 next year.”
The NIRF 2025 marks the 10th edition of the rankings, evaluating 7,692 institutions across 17 categories, including a new category on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Institutions are assessed on parameters such as Teaching, Learning and Resources; Research and Professional Practice; Graduation Outcomes; Outreach and Inclusivity; and Perception.
