Khul Ja Sim Sim Cave Meets Maha Kumbh: Radhamadhab Nagar Kali Puja Committee Gears Up For A Grand Celebration
To make a mark this Kali Puja, the Radhamadhab Nagar Kali Puja Committee of Mandir Dighi, in collaboration with Ekota Club, has announced an ambitious themed pandal inspired by “Khul Ja Sim Sim” and the “Maha Kumbh Mela”.
Competing with other big-budget pujas in Silchar, the committee aims to mesmerise visitors through innovative design, elaborate lighting, and cultural performances. Addressing the media on Friday, organisers said preparations are in full swing for the upcoming Diwali and Kali Puja festivities.
For the first time, the committee will merge the mythical world of “Khul Ja Sim Sim” with the spiritual grandeur of the Maha Kumbh. With support from Ekota Club, a special dance drama titled “Chamunda Akhyan” will be staged inside a cave-shaped setup, portraying scenes from the Khul Ja Sim Sim universe alongside visuals of sadhus and saints from the Kumbh Mela. The act will be performed every 15 minutes throughout the three-day celebration, except on Kali Puja day.
Committee members shared, “We try to do something new every year. This year, we are recreating the Maha Kumbh — probably for the first time in Cachar. We will also have a special door that opens when someone says ‘Khul Ja Sim Sim.’ Some parts of the pandal will be built on land and some on water. Light decorations will begin from Hospital Road, and mahaprasad will be distributed throughout the night and early morning after Puja.”
Adding to the spectacle, organisers revealed that “trending sadhus” from the Maha Kumbh — such as the ascetic who grew a plant on his jata (hair lock), Kata Baba, the Aghoris, and the Monalisa-lookalike woman who went viral — will be recreated live at the pandal to draw crowds.
The festivities will include traditional rituals such as mangal aarti and anjali, followed by captivating cultural programmes every evening.
