Hit-And-Run Near Bon Durga Mandir Claims Life Of 8-Year-Old Girl
An eight-year-old girl was killed in a tragic hit-and-run incident near the Bon Durga Mandir in Hattichhara, Cachar on Thursday evening (December 4). The bike fled the scene at high speed, as per locals.
The victim has been identified as 8-year-old Ripa Goala, the daughter of Sajal Goala and a resident of Haticherra Tea Estate near Udharbond, along the East-West Corridor. According to locals, the accident occurred at around 5 PM when Ripa was returning home from the Haticherra Bon Durga Temple. A speeding bike, allegedly travelling from Borkhola towards Silchar, struck the child and fled the scene immediately.
Residents rushed to the spot and took Ripa to the Udharbond Primary Health Centre in an attempt to save her. However, doctors on duty declared her dead on arrival.
Upon receiving the information, Yakub Ali, the Second Officer of Udharbond Police Station, reached the site, initiated an investigation, and sent the body to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
A local resident, speaking about the incident, said, “By the time we heard of the accident and reached the road, the bike was already gone. We couldn’t even note the registration number.”
Hit-and-run cases have been steadily rising across Barak Valley, raising serious concerns over road safety and failure in steps taken for enforcement.
