Hailakandi Senior Superintendent of Police’s Escort Vehicle Hits Youth, Dies of Injuries

A tragic road accident claimed the life of a Hailakandi local after he was hit by the escort vehicle of the district’ Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) on Kalibari Road on Tuesday evening (December 23).

The deceased has been identified as Biswajit Das, a resident of Kalibari Road, Ward No. 16 of Hailakandi town. According to reports, Biswajit was returning home on his bicycle after work when the escort vehicle of Hailakandi SSP Amitabh Singh allegedly rammed into his bicycle from behind, causing him to fall and sustain critical injuries.

The escort vehicle involved in the accident bears registration number AS-30-7686. Following the incident, traffic police and senior officials rushed to the spot and shifted the injured youth to Hailakandi Santosh Kumar Roy Civil Hospital. Due to his critical condition, he was referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, but he reportedly succumbed to his injuries on the way. He was declared dead.

Meanwhile, Hailakandi Police have arrested the driver of the SSP’s escort vehicle, identified as Ali Hussain, and further investigation is underway.
