Neighbour Allegedly Beats Cow To Death In Dudhpatil Village for Grazing His Land
Tension prevailed at Dudhpatil’s Leburbond village on the outskirts of Silchar after a cow was allegedly beaten to death and dumped into a pond following brutal torture by a neighbour on Saturday, December 27. There are also allegations that the cow owner was threatened during the incident. A written complaint has been lodged at the Malugram Police Station seeking strict action.
According to the complaint filed by Gobinda Shuklabaidya, three of his cows strayed near the house of his neighbour, Pratap Shuklabaidya, while grazing. Gobinda alleged that Pratap mercilessly assaulted the animals and pushed them into a nearby pond. “One cow died on the spot, another narrowly survived, while the third sustained serious injuries,” the complaint stated.
Eyewitnesses from the locality informed Gobinda, who rushed to the spot and allegedly found one of his cows lying dead in the pond. When he confronted the accused, Pratap allegedly became aggressive, abused him verbally, and admitted to beating the cow, claiming it had damaged his vegetable field.
Gobinda further alleged that when he protested, he was threatened with physical assault. He also claimed that the accused had earlier subjected other animals, including cows, goats and ducks, to similar acts of cruelty.
Gobinda Shuklabaidya said, “Three of my cows entered his land where some hyacinth bean (uri) plants were grown. When he saw them, he began beating the cows, claiming that our cows had ruined his bean plants. He does this often, sometimes even using a machete. After beating them, he pushed them into a pond. One cow died as she was too weak and drowned. In the evening, he confessed before village leaders that he had beaten the cow and that it fell into the pond. He has done such acts earlier as well.”
Demanding a fair investigation and stringent punishment, Gobinda has urged the police to take immediate action. Police sources said the complaint has been received and the matter is under inquiry.
