Borkhola SR Row: 1,500 Names, Including BLOs, Allegedly Put Under Deletion Process

Serious allegations have emerged from Borkhola LA in Cachar during the ongoing Special Revision (SR) of electoral rolls, with several alleged victims, including a serving Booth Level Officer claiming that voter deletions are being carried out in a targeted manner against the minority population.

Residents from different localities alleged that one or two individuals have filed multiple objections using Form 7, leading to the deletion of the names of voters who are very much alive and residing in the area. Locals of the Rajnagar–Manikpur area of Borkhola alleged that the names of around 1,500 minority voters are facing targeted deletion. Shockingly, the list also includes serving BLOs.

The affected voters believe that the objections were selectively aimed at members of the minority community.

Among the alleged victims is a government employee and teacher by profession, who stated that the names of his family members were deleted despite their presence in the 1974 voter list. He further claimed that he himself has served as a Presiding Officer during several previous elections, raising serious questions about the verification process followed during the SR exercise.

Tensions further escalated on Thursday (January 22), when around 30 voters from the Masughat area alleged that objections were raised against their names by a representative of a panchayat member, allegedly through the misuse of Form 7. The affected voters termed the objections “false and malicious” and accused the complainant of targeting a specific community.

Victims also claimed that, in some cases, the alleged complainants whose names appear on the objection forms denied having filed any such complaints when contacted, deepening the suspicion of misuse of the SR process.

The developments have triggered concern and unrest across several parts of Borkhola, with residents questioning the role of the election machinery and demanding transparency and accountability in the ongoing revision of the voter list.

Meanwhile, upon receiving information about the harassment during the SR process, MLA Misbahul Islam Laskar met district election officials and held discussions with them. The situation has triggered intense tension and unrest across various parts of Borkhola during the SR process.

The final role after SR will be released on February 10, 2026 as per the previous notification.
