Stolen Bike From Cachar Reaches Bangladesh; Three Thieves Nabbed
A case involving a stolen motorcycle from Bhaga Bazar under Dholai Police Station in Cachar district has sparked intrigue in the area after the vehicle was allegedly smuggled into Bangladesh and traced a week later. With the help of social media, three persons allegedly involved in the smuggling racket were apprehended. However, the incident raises serious questions about the porous nature of the India–Bangladesh border and the role of security agencies tasked with guarding it.
According to reports, a white Yamaha R15 motorcycle (registration number AS-11-AF-2987) was stolen from in front of the house of Nazim Uddin Laskar (Shippu), a resident of Bongram village in the Bhaga Bazar area, at around 4:04 am on January 22. The entire theft was captured on the CCTV camera installed at Nazim Uddin’s residence. The footage showed three youths, with their faces covered, stealing the motorcycle.
On the same day, Nazim Uddin lodged a complaint at Dholai Police Station. He also posted photographs of the motorcycle on social media along with his mobile number, appealing for help in recovering the bike.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday (January 28), around 1 PM, a person from Bangladesh contacted Nazim Uddin via WhatsApp and informed him that the motorcycle had reached Bangladesh. As proof, the person sent a photograph in which all three individuals allegedly involved in the theft were visible.
Based on the photograph, one suspect was identified as Ajmal Hussain alias Tippu (20), son of Amir Uddin, a resident of the Shyamacharanpur Gaon Panchayat area. With the help of locas, Nazim Uddin located Ajmal. When asked by Amir, Ajmal confessed to the theft. Based on his information, the other two accused were found in the same village.
The other two accused were identified as Kabil Hossain (21), son of Sabir Ahmed, and Sadir Ahmed (21), son of Anwar Ali, both residents of Patharkandi in Sribhumi district. During interrogation, all three stated that they had sold the stolen motorcycle for Rs. 50,000 after changing the number plate, to a man named Manir, a resident of Hatirghul under Patharkandi Police Station, who later smuggled the motorcycle into Bangladesh.
Later that night, all three arrested accused were handed over to the Dholai Police. Today, Nazim Uddin Laskar filed a written FIR at Dholai Police Station naming the three as accused. Police have taken them into custody, continued interrogation, and initiated necessary steps to recover the motorcycle.
Several questions have now been raised about how the motorcycle managed to cross the border and reach Bangladesh. With the issue of cross-border bike smuggling coming to light, the police investigation has gained a new dimension.
