Cachar Police seize 947 grams heroin worth Rs 5 crore, one arrested
Cachar Police recovered 947 grams of heroin and arrested one person during an anti-narcotics operation at Meherpur MHC Lane under Silchar Police Station on Friday (January 30).
Acting on specific source information, police conducted a raid and seized 85 soap boxes containing heroin from a rented house in the area. The accused has been identified as Shamim Ahmed, a resident of Patharkandi in Sribhumi district.
Addressing the media, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Subrata Sen said that Ahmed was staying as a tenant at the house of Nizam Uddin in Silchar and had allegedly brought the drugs from another state.
“We received information that Shamim Ahmed had stored narcotics inside his rented room. Based on this input, we launched an operation and seized 85 soap cases containing 947 grams of heroin. He was caught red-handed,” Sen said.
The estimated market value of the seized contraband is around Rs 5 crore. Police suspect that the accused was planning to transport the drugs outside Cachar.
Legal action has been initiated, and police are investigating both forward and backward linkages to trace the source and intended recipients of the consignment.
The ASP added that the police will continue their crackdown on narcotics as part of their ongoing war against drugs in the district.
