Badarpur Driver Burnt Alive After Dumper Touches High-Voltage Line in Meghalaya’s Ratacherra

On Tuesday (3 February), a tragic accident brought sadness over Badarpur as a Badarpur-based driver was burnt alive after the dumper he was driving touched a high-voltage line in Meghalaya’s Ratachera. The vehicle caught fire upon coming into contact with the high-voltage electric wire, and the driver, identified as Sani Roy of Badarpur, was burnt alive in the incident.

As per sources, the dumper driver had taken the vehicle to a servicing centre in Ratachera to wash it. During the cleaning process, he lifted the dumper’s body using hydraulic pressure to unload and clean it properly.

However, while the body of the dumper was raised, it accidentally came into contact with an overhead high-voltage power line. The moment the metal body touched the wire, sparks flew and a fire broke out. Within seconds, flames spread across the vehicle and the entire dumper was engulfed in fire, leaving the driver trapped inside the cabin with no chance to escape.

Meghalaya Police soon reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to a nearby hospital for post-mortem examination. The tragic incident has cast a shadow of grief over the victim’s family and the Badarpur area. It also highlights the need for extra vigilance and safety measures while working near high-voltage power lines to prevent such heartbreaking accidents.
