
Cachar: 90-year-old woman killed in speeding bike accident in Ganganagar
On 6 February (Friday), an unfortunate incident took place in which a 90-year-old woman died on the spot after being hit by a speeding motorcycle in the Ganganagar area of Cachar, police said. The rider also sustained severe injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
The deceased has been identified as Basanti Paul. According to reports, she was walking along the roadside when a motorcycle bearing registration number MZ 01P 7194 allegedly struck her at high speed. The impact proved fatal and she died at the scene.
The rider of the motorcycle, a young man, also sustained serious injuries after losing control and falling on the road. He was found unconscious following the crash.
Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and recovered the body of the elderly woman. Both the injured rider and the deceased were taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where the woman was declared dead and the rider is undergoing treatment.
Eyewitnesses told the media that the motorcycle came from the Motinagar side at full speed when the woman was crossing the road. They said the collision was severe and the rider fell immediately after the impact.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway. The incident highlights the urgent need for motorists to follow traffic rules, maintain safe speeds and ride responsibly, especially in residential and crowded areas, to prevent such tragic loss of life.
