Sribhumi: Husband Murders Wife in Front of Child, Later Surrenders
A Sribhumi man allegedly killed his wife on Monday afternoon (February 23) with an axe in Nilambazar’s Loharpara area. The incident stemmed from prolonged domestic disputes and suspicion of an extramarital affair. Police said the accused later walked into the police station with the blood-stained weapon and surrendered.
The accused has been identified as Joynal Uddin, while the deceased is Safia Begum. According to police sources, Uddin attacked his wife multiple times during a heated argument at their home. Safia Begum died at the scene due to severe injuries.
Police said the couple had a history of frequent quarrels linked to family tensions and the husband’s suspicion of infidelity. Disagreements over disciplining their young daughter also reportedly contributed to escalating conflict inside the household.
The couple’s elder daughter, who witnessed the incident, said that her mother was attacked by her father. She said her father struck her mother with an axe. The traumatised child was carrying her younger sibling the whole time. These children are now without their mother, and their father is in police custody.
Nilambazar police reached the spot soon after receiving information and began a preliminary investigation. A forensic team later examined the scene in the presence of a magistrate and collected samples. The axe believed to have been used in the killing has been seized.
Police said the accused is being questioned, and legal proceedings have begun. The exact sequence of events and motive is under detailed investigation.
