Daring Theft Near Malugram Police Outpost; Senior Citizen Couple Allege Police Ignored Distress Call

A daring theft allegedly took place barely 200 metres from the Malugram police outpost in Silchar, leaving a retired couple shaken and raising serious questions about police responsiveness and security in the locality. The incident reportedly occurred around 2 AM on Tuesday early morning (March 10) at the residence of retired senior citizens Dr Sanjeev Sikidar and his wife, located on By-lane No. 3 of Malugram’s Mela Road. Valuables worth over Rs 8 lakhs were stolen

According to the couple, miscreants allegedly broke the bathroom window to enter the house while they were asleep. The intruders then broke open an almirah and escaped with valuables. The Sikidars said approximately Rs. 40,000 in cash and gold jewellery worth around Rs. 7 lakh were stolen from the house.

The couple further alleged that the thieves even snatched a gold chain from the neck of Dr Sikidar’s wife while she was asleep. Both husband and wife claimed they suspect that the intruders may have sprayed some substance in the room to keep them unconscious during the theft.

CCTV footage from a neighbouring house allegedly shows three individuals involved in the incident.

The family has also alleged that when they tried to contact Malugram police immediately after the incident, their calls were not answered. They claimed they later informed the Silchar Sadar Police Station, following which the Sadar police reportedly alerted Malugram police. However, according to the victims, police personnel from Malugram only reached the spot on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident has triggered anger among locals of the area, who say multiple thefts have occurred in the locality in the past as well. Locals have questioned how such a major theft could take place so close to a police outpost and alleged that there has been no visible action from the police so far.

Locals, particularly senior citizens living in the area, say the incident has left them feeling unsafe and concerned about their security.
