Silchar’s Tauseef Tops AIIMS Nagpur in B.Sc. Allied Healthcare, Honoured by President Droupadi Murmu

Silchar’s Tauseef Ahmed Laskar has secured the first position in B.Sc. Allied and Health Care at AIIMS Nagpur, receiving his degree from President Droupadi Murmu during the institute’s 2nd convocation held on April 15, 2026. For Tauseef, this was not just an award, but the breaking of a barrier many from his background quietly believe cannot be crossed. Speaking to Barak Bulletin, he shared insights into his journey and the surreal moment of sharing the stage with the President.

The auditorium at AIIMS Nagpur was filled with pride and celebration on April 15, 2026, as seven toppers from different fields were honoured during the institute’s 2nd convocation. Among them was Tauseef, who secured the first position in B.Sc. Allied and Health Care at AIIMS Nagpur for the 2021 batch. His journey from Kanakpur Part II in Silchar to receiving a medal from Droupadi Murmu carried not just personal triumph, but the hopes of an entire region.

The moment became even more special as the day coincided with Pohela Boishakh, when Bengalis in Barak Valley celebrate their New Year, adding a deeper emotional significance to his achievement.

“It felt unreal to share the stage with the President. Coming from the Northeast, I never imagined something like this would happen to me.”
— Tauseef Ahmed Laskar

Speaking to Barak Bulletin, Tauseef opened up about the overwhelming nature of the recognition. He said being honoured by the President at the AIIMS Nagpur auditorium was something he had never even dreamed of. He spoke about how people with strong connections may see such moments as achievable, but for someone like him, it came as a complete surprise.

He reflected on his background and the contrast he experienced during his academic journey. Most of his batchmates, he said, came from well-established families and studied in reputed institutions like Delhi Public School and similar academies. He did not share that privilege. Growing up in Kanakpur Part II, Silchar, topping AIIMS and being recognised at such a level was beyond anything he had imagined.

Explaining his field, Tauseef clarified that B.Sc. Allied and Health Care fall under paramedical sciences. It includes areas such as emergency medical technology, medical laboratory technology, radiotherapy, radiology, and ICU technology. He emphasised that it is a vast and essential field within healthcare.

He shared that his initial passion was in fine arts. However, coming from a middle-class background, he felt the need to prioritise financial security. Healthcare appeared to him as both a stable and meaningful career. It was during his higher secondary years that he began to consider this path seriously. He described how dreams like these often feel distant for those from underprivileged backgrounds, but his journey proves they are not impossible.

After completing his degree, Tauseef underwent a one-year internship at AIIMS Nagpur, which concluded in January 2026. At present, he has not joined any organisation and is waiting for further opportunities.

Talking about his preparation, he said that entry into this field requires clearing the AIIMS entrance examination under its undergraduate programmes. Each field has a separate exam, and for the B.Sc. Allied and Health Care, he prepared using the same materials he had studied for NEET. Although he did not secure a high rank in NEET, he achieved a rank of 238 in the AIIMS entrance, which helped him secure admission. He also mentioned that there is a possibility of this exam being integrated with NEET in the future.

Looking ahead, Tauseef plans to join AIIMS Gorakhpur through a direct recruitment examination for the post of Junior Medical Lab Technologist under the central government. He is currently waiting for document verification. Under the EWS category, he has secured an All India Rank of 2, while his general rank stands at 9. With such strong rankings, he remains hopeful of selection.

He also had a message for students from Barak Valley. He advised them not to overthink and to focus on working hard. Instead of searching for shortcuts or only important topics, he urged them to build strong basic knowledge and think beyond conventional patterns. He reminded them that competition is intense, but persistence and clarity can make a difference.

Looking to the future, Tauseef carries a vision that goes beyond personal success. He hopes that in the next five years, he can help build facilities in Silchar in collaboration with others, with the aim of increasing the number of skilled technologists in the region. He pointed out that the presence of such professionals in the Northeast is currently very limited. His goal is simple yet powerful— to gain knowledge from outside, but use it to uplift the home.
