Borkhola: Alleged Cattle Smuggling Bid Foiled On National Highway

A suspected cattle smuggler from Morigaon district was arrested in Assam’s Borkhola after police seized 15 cattle during an operation on the Silchar-Haflong National Highway. According to officials, the operation was conducted at Balachera area under Borkhola Police Station based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the alleged transportation of cattle through the route. Police said the seized cattle were suspected to be transported illegally.

Police officials stated that a truck bearing registration number AS 01NC 9425 was intercepted and thoroughly searched during the operation. During the search, officers reportedly recovered 15 cattle from the vehicle. The truck driver, identified as Moin Uddin, was immediately detained and later arrested in connection with the case. Preliminary investigation conducted by Assam Police revealed that the accused is a resident of Morigaon district in Assam.

As per reports, the estimated market value of the seized cattle is believed to be more than Rs 20 lakh. Police sources informed that a formal case has been registered following the seizure and arrest. Officials added that further investigation is currently underway to determine the source and intended destination of the cattle, along with whether more individuals may have been involved in the alleged smuggling network operating through the region.
