Katigorah: Bharatmala Project Ditch Claims 10 Year Old’s Life in Cachar
A 10 year old boy died after allegedly falling into a deep roadside ditch dug for the Bharatmala road project at Tarinipur in Katigorah, Cachar, on Sunday (July 12). The deceased has been identified as Kamil Uddin, a Class IV student of a local school.
According to family members and local residents, Kamil had left his house in the morning but did not return for a long time. As concern grew, his family and neighbours began searching for him. His body was later found in a deep ditch beside the under construction road being built under the Bharatmala project, a short distance from his home.
“We were looking for him and even asked others to help and then we found out he had fallen into a ditch at the Bharatmala site,” the boy’s father said while sobbing.
The child was immediately taken to Katigorah Model Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police later recovered the body and sent it to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The incident has left the area in mourning. Family members and local residents have blamed the agency responsible for the road construction, alleging that deep ditches had been left uncovered and without adequate safety measures in a densely populated area. They claimed that the lack of proper precautions led to the child’s death.
Local residents have demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and compensation for the bereaved family. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the allegations.
