Phulerthal Markulin GP Crowned MLA Cup Lakhipur 2026 Champions

Phulerthal Markulin GP were crowned champions of the MLA Cup Lakhipur 2026 Season-5 Men’s Open Football Championship after defeating Labok GP 3-1 in the final at Labok Tea Garden ground on Saturday, August 15.

The tournament, which began on July 26, saw participation from 355 teams and 5,325 registered players from across Lakhipur. The matches were held over 21 days at multiple locations in the area before the final brought the competition to a close on Independence Day.

Phulerthal Markulin GP dominated the final with three goals, while Labok GP managed to score once. The 3-1 victory secured the championship title for Phulerthal Markulin GP.

The final drew a large crowd of football fans to the Labok Tea Garden ground, with an atmosphere of celebration surrounding the match.

Following the final, a prize distribution ceremony was held in the presence of Assam Minister Kaushik Rai. Phulerthal Markulin GP received a cash prize of Rs 1.01 lakh along with the championship trophy, while runners-up Labok GP received Rs 51,000 and a trophy.

Speaking to the media, Minister Kaushik Rai said the MLA Cup was started in 2022 to promote sports in the Lakhipur area and has since become an annual event. He said the tournament is open only to players from Lakhipur.

Rai said sports are important for maintaining good health and expressed his intention to continue promoting a healthy lifestyle through sporting activities in the area.

The fifth season concluded with the 3-1 final victory, as Phulerthal Markulin GP lifted the MLA Cup after a 21-day football competition involving hundreds of teams and thousands of players.
