Massive 120-kg Baghair Fish Draws Huge Crowd at Sonai Market
A massive Baghair fish (locally known as Bagh Mach) weighing around 120 kg created a major sensation at Sonai Market in Cachar district after it was brought there for sale. The enormous fish, caught in the Barak River, drew a huge crowd of curious residents, many of whom stopped to take photographs and record videos.
According to local sources, the fish was caught in a fisherman’s net in the Hatiarhar area of the Barak River. It was later brought to Sonai Market for sale, where its extraordinary size quickly became the centre of attention.
The crowd continued to grow as people gathered around to get a closer look at the giant fish. One local man said that many people could hardly believe that such a large fish could be found in the Barak Valley.
The Baghair fish belongs to the genus Bagarius, which includes species such as Bagarius bagarius and Bagarius yarrelli. It is a large and well-known river catfish found across South Asia and is also commonly known as the giant devil catfish or goonch.
Since fish of such an enormous size are rarely seen in local markets, the 120-kg catch has generated widespread curiosity and discussion among residents of the Sonai area.
