Assam Rifles Seize Yaba Tablets Worth Rs 168 Crore in Lakhipur

In a major operation against interstate drug trafficking, Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Silchar, seized around 5.6 lakh Yaba tablets worth an estimated Rs 168 crore in Cachar district’s Lakhipur area.

One suspected drug trafficker was detained during the operation. Security forces also seized a Tata lorry allegedly used to transport the consignment.

According to available information, the joint team launched the operation in the Jujang Pahar area of Lakhipur late on Tuesday night, August 25. During the search, the team recovered approximately 60 kg of Yaba tablets, with a total count of around 5.6 lakh tablets.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the narcotics were allegedly brought into Assam from neighbouring Manipur. Investigators suspect that the consignment was intended to be transported to different parts of Assam through National Highway 37.

Authorities suspect that interstate drug trafficking networks may be using Cachar and Sribhumi districts as important transit routes for moving narcotics.

The detained suspect, along with the seized drugs, vehicle and other recovered materials, has been handed over to the concerned authorities for further investigation and legal action.

The seizure is being seen as a major success in the ongoing efforts against interstate drug trafficking in the region. Further investigation is underway.
