Suitcase Murder Case Gets Major Twist as Manik Uddin’s Wife Is Arrested in Jiribam

The investigation into the Tamil Nadu Express suitcase murder case has taken another significant turn with the arrest of Bhagabati Majhi, also known as Ayesha Begum, the wife of Cachar resident Manik Uddin Laskar, from Jiribam district of Manipur.

According to police, Bhagabati Majhi, 21, was arrested from Kashimpur village in Jiribam on August 29, a day after her husband Manik Uddin Laskar, 22, was arrested from the Lalpani-Rasidpur Inter-Village Road in the district.

Police said the arrests were made after T8 Guduvanchery Police Station in Tamil Nadu sought assistance to trace two accused persons who were suspected of hiding in the Jiribam area.

The arrests were carried out by a joint team of Jiribam District Police and Tamil Nadu Police.

Bhagabati Majhi, originally from Radhapur village in Odisha’s Kendujhar district, is also known as Ayesha Begum. Police identified her as the wife of Manik Uddin Laskar, a resident of the Sonabarighat area in Cachar district.

According to the investigation, the couple is accused of being involved in the murder of 38-year-old Hayathun Isha, whose dismembered body parts were recovered from a trolley bag aboard the Chennai-New Delhi Tamil Nadu Express in Agra earlier this month. The allegations are under investigation, and the role of each accused is yet to be established through the legal process.

Police said both accused are now being handed over to the Station House Officer of T8 Guduvanchery Police Station for further legal formalities and investigation.

The case first came to light in early August after decomposed human remains were found inside a red trolley bag in a general compartment of the Tamil Nadu Express after the train reached Agra.

The investigation later led police to Guduvanchery near Chennai, where additional body parts believed to be of the victim were recovered from a rented house. The victim’s head has reportedly not yet been recovered.

Hayathun Isha had reportedly been living in Guduvanchery and working at Vijay Garments in the Tambaram area. Police sources had earlier stated that Manik Uddin Laskar and Bhagabati Majhi were known to the victim and were staying in rented accommodation in Guduvanchery.

Agra police registered Case No. 95/2026 under Sections 103(1) and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in connection with the recovery of the body parts.

Separately, T8 Guduvanchery Police Station had registered Case No. 338/2026 after the victim was reported missing.

With the arrest of Bhagabati Majhi, both persons named as accused in the police request have now been taken into custody. The investigation is continuing to determine the sequence of events, the alleged motive behind the killing and the role of each accused in the case.
